Eskata™ in Birmingham, AL
If you suffer from raised seborrheic keratosis lesions on your body, you may find Eskata™ is just what you’ve been looking for. At Dermatologists of Birmingham, we’re pleased to offer Eskata™ treatments to residents in Birmingham, Alabaster and surrounding areas in Alabama.
What is Eskata™?
Eskata™ is an FDA approved application for use as an in-office treatment for raised seborrheic keratosis (SK) lesions on the body. These lesions are generally benign and not harmful and are sometimes called age spots or skin growths. They can be flat and relatively smooth or raised, dark, ugly and wart-like. SK lesions are known to increase in number as well as size as you age, and they affect over 83 million adults in the US. That’s more than the number of people with psoriasis, acne and rosacea combined.
Eskata™ is a clear, colorless, topical solution with dihydrogen dioxide (commonly known as hydrogen peroxide) as its active ingredient. It is not intended for home use, and should be administered by a health care professional.
How Does Eskata™ Work?
Eskata™ is for topical use only, and is intended to reduce or eliminate the appearance of raised SK lesions. It’s applied in a circular motion directly to the SK with a specialized applicator that allows for precision when wetting the surface of the lesions.
The treatment allows Eskata™ to penetrate the surface of the SK lesions, where it causes oxidative damage to the lesion, breaking it down over time so the cells can be shed by the body until it disappears completely or almost completely.
Eskata™ can be applied to SK lesions four times, about one minute apart, during a single in-office treatment. If the lesions are not completely gone within about 3 weeks, the treatment may be repeated.
What are the Benefits of Eskata™?
There are multiple benefits to Eskata™, and most patients are quite pleased with their results. The most common benefits seen include:
- Complete or nearly complete clearance of SK lesions
- No downtime
- Little to no pain
- Restored self confidence in your appearance
