May marks a milestone we are incredibly proud to celebrate — 20 years of caring for patients in our community.
What began as Shelby Dermatology, founded by Dr. Henderson, has grown into what is now known as Dermatologists of Birmingham. From the very beginning, Dr. Henderson recognized a need in the Alabaster area for accessible, high-quality dermatologic care, building a practice centered on diagnosing, treating, and protecting the skin health of his patients.
Building the Foundation
As the practice grew, Dr. Bourgeois joined in 2013 after completing his training. Early in his career, he brought energy, growth, and a shared commitment to patient care.
Together, Dr. Henderson and Dr. Bourgeois expanded the practice, continuing to focus on medical dermatology, prevention, and long-term patient relationships in the Alabaster community.
Growing Services Over Time
In the early days, offerings were simple. As the practice evolved, so did our approach.
Over time, we expanded services to better meet the needs of our patients, continuing to prioritize skin health, prevention, and long-term care.
Expanding Expertise and Experience
A few years later, we welcomed Dr. Northington, who was practicing at UAB and brought with her a high level of experience and advanced training.
As a double board-certified dermatologist and Mohs surgeon, she expanded our ability to treat complex skin cancers. At the same time, she elevated our cosmetic dermatology offerings, bringing a more advanced and comprehensive aesthetic experience to our patients.
With her addition, we expanded into our 280 location, allowing us to serve more patients while offering a broader range of services.
Where We Are Today
Today, Dermatologists of Birmingham includes:
- Two locations (Alabaster and 280)
- A team of board-certified dermatologists
- A double board-certified dermatologist and Mohs surgeon
- Medical aestheticians at both locations
We now offer a full range of services, including:
- Skin cancer detection, diagnosis, and treatment
- Mohs surgery and advanced surgical care
- Medical dermatology
- Cosmetic dermatology
- Facials, laser treatments, CoolSculpting, laser hair removal, and brow/lash services
Dr. Henderson and Dr. Bourgeois primarily serve patients in Alabaster, while Dr. Northington leads care at our 280 location. Dr. Bourgeois also treats patients at the 280 office on select Fridays, focusing on laser services.
